Jodi Anderson, ATC, Assistant Athletic Trainer

Phone: 732-987-2777

Email: andersonj@georgian.edu

Jodi joined the Georgian Court University Athletics staff in January of 2008.  Prior to moving to New Jersey, Jodi worked over 8 years for the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN as a Certified Athletic Trainer.  Her job duties included providing athletic training coverage to two local high schools, rehabilitating patients in clinical setting and coordinating an Athletic Enhancement program for athletes that included Sportsmetrics.  The Athletic Enhancement program is an intense training program designed to increase the speed, agility, strength and power of the athlete while incorporating injury prevention techniques.  Sportsmetrics is an injury prevention program scientifically designed to reduce knee injuries in the female athlete.

Jodi is a Minnesota native who received her Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Athletic Training and a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Health Fitness from Gustavus Adolphus College (St. Peter, MN) in 1998.   She became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) in 2003 and worked for Summit Sports Training Center as a Performance Coach in Cherry Hill, NJ just prior to joining the GCU community.  Jodi has been an Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) and an American Red Cross Instructor since 1999; she is also member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Jodi resides in Marlton, NJ.  She enjoys the outdoors by spending time on the water, bicycling, snowmobiling, snowboarding, deer hunting, camping and riding her motorcycle.  She also enjoys attending country music concerts, watching football and spending time with family and friends.

Rehabilitation Progression

This diagram is provided in an effort to give student-athletes a better understanding of the science and physiology behind an athlete's progression of rehabilitation. It visually illustrates the underlying philosophy utilized in clinical decision making. Goals are set at each level, and progression up the pyramid can only be accomplished when each level below is mastered.

It is the responsibility of the athletic training staff to ensure injured athletes have a strong foundation before they are returned to sport. This reduces the risks of sustaining more severe injury and helps to prevent re-injury. All clinical decisions are made by a certified athletic trainer in consultation with the team physician.

Hours of Operation

Hours of operation will vary season to season and week to week. An athletic trainer will be available for all home practices and games (with the exception of weight room-only workouts). An athletic trainer will be on-site, in most cases, 1 HOUR before the start of the practice/game and will remain available for at least 1/2-HOUR after the conclusion of the practice/game. There typically will be an athletic trainer available during the morning hours to supervise and instruct rehabilitation programs and evaluate new injuries.

It is best to schedule an appointment for rehab and injury evaluations, however emergency "walk-ins" will not be refused. You can always contact the athletic trainer by telephone to make an appointment on short notice.

** Operating hours will be posted each week outside of the locker room door AND on the bulletin board outside of Room 119 (the athletic training office) in The Casino.**

6.  If you borrow something, sign it out and make sure it is returned and signed back in.

3. New Injuries: Last on a first come, first serve basis (with the exception of emergency care).

Athletes should take these policies into consideration and allow for ample time to be treated prior to contests/practices.

Privacy Policies

Georgian Court University is HIPAA (Health Information Portability Accountability Act) compliant (HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices & Designation Forms).  We take strong measures to insure a student athlete's privacy. At the start of the season, all athletes must delegate individuals the athletic trainer is permitted to speak with in regards to injuries. The athletic trainer will not speak with any persons not delegated by the athlete.

All athletes have the choice to be seen individually and privately in the Athletic Training Office. Please notify the athletic trainer if you would like to be seen privately so an appointment can be scheduled.

GCU Athletic Trainer Travel

An athletic trainer will not travel with any team during the regular season unless prior arrangements have been made. All teams will travel with a fully stocked medical kit. Treatment requests addressed to the host athletic trainer,as well as emergency cards for each athlete and insurance claim forms, can be found inside the medical kit. An athletic trainer will travel with teams during post-season competition, whenever possible.

 Emergency Procedures

The athletic training department has an emergency action plan that will be activated in the event of serious illness or injury. The emergency action plan outlines the actions of the emergency response team which includes coaches, athletic trainers, physicians, nurses, and security personnel. When appropriate, EMS can be contacted by dialing 9-1-1. Whenver 9-1-1 is called, campus security should also be notified (ext. 2611) so they can direct EMS to the location of the emergency. All GCU teams will not be traveling with an Athletic Trainer in the regular season. All teams will have a first aid kit with necessary supplies and written instructions for the hosting Athletic Trainer.

Team Doctors are at most home events. Jersey Shore Medical Center will be used for all serious head traumas. All other trauma will be transported to Kimball Medical Center.

Physician Oversight of GCU Sports Medicine:

Dr. Stephen Rice, M.D. is Georgian Court University's official team physician. Dr. Rice is a board certified pediatric sports medicine physician who is the director of the Jersey Shore Sports Medicine Center in Neptune, NJ, as well as the program director for the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. In addition to Dr. Rice, the two sports medicine fellows he trains each year provide services to GCU. During the 2007-08 school year, Dr. Thomas Bottiglieri, D.O., a family medical physician, and Dr. Benjamin Rodgers, M.D., a pediatrician, are the sports medicine fellows. The team physician and his fellows will conduct pre-participation physicals. All student-athletes must have their physical approved by the team physician. The sports medicine fellows cover most home events and visit regularly so as to stay current with and examine the athlete's injuries and injury recovery processes.

The athletic training staff works directly under the team physician, guided by standing orders. The sports medicine staff interacts regularly either in person or via phone/e-mail/fax so as to provide the best care to GCU athletes. This ongoing communication guides decisions regarding treatment and return to play. The physician always has final say regarding participation, but as the athletic training staff often works in the absence of a physician, the athletic trainers are the next persons in the chain of command to make return-to-play decisions. These decisions are made in the best interest of the student-athlete and are made based on clinical experience, sound medical decision making, and communication between the sports medicine staff, coaches, and players.

In addition to the services provided by Dr. Rice and his sports medicine fellows, Georgian Court University will also make referrals to Professional Orthopedic Associates. The physicians at this practice serve as the team orthopedic physicians. In most cases, referrals will be made to the orthopedic group after initial consulation with the team physician. Athletes are free to see any physician of their own choosing; however they must provide proper documentation to return to play and the team physician has final say on participation.

Team physicians are on-site for most home events. Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ will be used for all major traumas such as head and neck injury. All non-traumatic and minor traumatic injuries will be transported to Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood, NJ.
