Q. What is the average class size at Georgian Court?
A. Class size varies depending on the course, but as an average, the classes range from 15 to 20 students.
Q. What are the requirements to get in to Georgian Court out of high school?
A. We look to see that you have successfully completed a rigorous academic curriculum with at least 16 academic units (English, Mathematics, Science, History, Language, etc.). The average incoming Freshman has attained a 3.2 GPA or B average from their high school.
Q. Does Georgian Court offer academic scholarships or grants?
A. We offer a variety of academic scholarships and grants depending upon your academic status, major of interest, or financial need.
Q. Is housing guaranteed for all four years?
A. Housing is not guaranteed for all four years; however, there has not been a housing problem in the past.
Q. May freshmen have cars?
A. Yes. freshmen are allowed to bring their cars. Our 155 acre campus has ample space. Parking permits are required and cost $200 for residents and $150 for commuters.
Q. What are the application deadlines?
A. We accept applications throughout the entire year. We offer what is called rolling admissions.
Q. How many students attend Georgian Court?
A. There are about 2,000 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students attending Georgian Court.
Q. How many students live on campus?
A. About 23% of our students live on campus in our three residence halls. In the 2006-2007 year, 75% of the Freshmen class (class of 2010) lived on campus.
Q. What is the student/faculty ratio?
A. The student to faculty ratio is about 14:1.
Q. Is a personal interview required?
A. No, the personal interview is not required, but we do offer informal interviews at the student’s request. If you feel that you can better represent your self in person than on your application, please feel free to contact your admissions counselor to schedule an interview.
Q. What is there to do while I’m not in class?
A. We offer 50 clubs that you can choose from along with the student government association, work-study programs, student lounges, and library facility that include homework lounges and computers. You can exercise in the fitness room, go for a swim in the pool or get a bite to eat at the Court Café or Raymond Hall dining room. You could even enjoy a walk on our beautiful campus grounds. Q. When do I have to declare my major?
A. Students have to declare their major by the end of their sophomore year or once they have earned 60 credits.
Q. Does Georgian Court University have payment plans?
A. Yes. We work with a company called Tuition Management System (TMS). Their contact information is 1 800.356.8329 or www.afford.com.
Q. When does academic planning and advising begin for new students?
A. New students will meet with an academic advisor after they have taken our placement exam, offered in the late spring and summer of their senior year of high school. An academic advisor will then assist students with the planning of their academic courses.
Q. Are tutoring services available?
A. Yes. The Academic Development Center provides free tutoring for all undergraduate GCU students. The support is provided by peer tutors that have been recommended by faculty. The center also provides workshops on reading comprehension, research skills, and time management.
Q. What services are available for students with learning disabilities?
A. The Learning Center (TLC) offers a program designed for learning-disabled students who desire a college education. The Learning Center assists the individual in becoming a successful college student. If you are accepted into the TLC program, they will work personally with each learning-disabled student on an individual basis. Current documentation for the learning disability is required from certified professionals within a school system or state-certified agency.
Q. How many credits are required to graduate?
A. The minimum number of credits that are required to graduate is 128. Please note that there are academic programs that exceed the minimum number of credits.
Q. When can I come for a tour of Georgian Court?
A. You can visit our website www.georgian.edu and register on-line for a Campus Visit/Tours. If you have a conflict with the scheduled Campus Visit/Tours, please contact the Office of Admissions and we will schedule an individual visit by appointment only. Q. Do you accept AP credits?
A. Yes. If you receive a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP exam and GCU has an equivalent course, then we will accept those credits.
Q. Does Georgian Court require an essay as part of the application process?
A. The essay is optional, but the essay gives your admissions counselor an additional piece of information about you and can only help the application process.
Q. Does Georgian Court accept the Common Application?
A. No. GCU does not accept the Common Application. Our application is on-line for your convenience or the paper application can be download from our website or sent to you upon request. Contact the Office of Admissions at 732.987.2700
